In simple words
Piles are swollen veins near the back passage. In laser treatment, a thin laser fibre is used to shrink those swollen veins from inside. There is no big cut and no stitches in most cases.
Who needs this treatment
- Bleeding while passing motion that keeps coming back
- Piles that come out and have to be pushed back
- A fissure that has not healed with ointment and medicine
- Pain or itching that has not improved after treatment by a family doctor
What happens, step by step
- You are given anaesthesia so you feel nothing during the procedure
- A thin laser fibre is passed to the swollen vein
- The laser shrinks the vein from inside, with no cutting of the skin around it
- In most cases there are no stitches
How many days it takes
-
Same day
You come in the morning. The procedure itself takes a short time. You rest, eat, and usually go home the same evening.
-
Day 1 to 2
Mild discomfort is normal. You are given medicine for it. Passing motion may feel strange at first.
-
Week 1
Most people return to desk work in this period. Avoid heavy lifting.
-
Week 2
Review visit with the surgeon.
After you go home
- Drink plenty of water every day
- Eat vegetables, fruit and fibre so that motion stays soft
- Do not strain or sit on the toilet for a long time
- Take the medicines exactly as written, even after you feel better
- Come for the review visit even if there is no problem

Questions people ask us about this
Will it pain a lot afterwards?
Some discomfort for a day or two is normal and medicine is given for it. Everybody's experience is different, and your surgeon will tell you what to expect in your case.
Can I go home the same day?
In most cases yes. If the surgeon decides you should stay overnight, it will be explained to you before.
Will the piles come back?
They can come back if constipation continues. That is why the diet advice matters as much as the procedure.
Do I have to remove all my clothes?
No. Only the area being treated is exposed, and it is kept covered otherwise.
Is this treatment covered by insurance?
Many policies cover it. Bring your policy card and the insurance desk will check for you before admission.
Still deciding? That is fine.
